It is Day 10 of Blogtober and it is also World Mental Health Day! Have you checked in with yourself lately? If you haven’t or don’t know where to begin. I am going to share some questions to kind check in on things internally and mentally to keep you in line. Something you should do regularly, but if not take a few minutes today on World Mental Health Day to do a little up-keeping in your heart and your noggin! Your future self will thank you!
Where to begin?
First things first, let’s get into a mindset and physical place you can think without distractions. Your physical environment can cause some serious mental issues. Messing with your juju and vibe. Find a place where you feel safe and secure.
You can either choose to write down these questions and answer them in a journal or you can these questions internally and answer in your head. Either way is up to you. I personally would choose journaling we are all about journaling here on Our Redonkulous Life.
If you are on a personal growth journey and you have been working on getting to know yourself better. One thing that kind of happens is you start to become so in tune with yourself. You can tell when something is off or starting to get off track. Which is usually the BIGGEST indication that it’s time to do a little mental health check. If it’s been a while take some time on the day that was made for it… World Mental Health Day!
Self-reflect! Please Self-reflect! You must Self-reflect! It is always key to a mental health check-in. National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) states that Self-care looks different for everyone, and it is important to find what you need and enjoy. It may take trial and error to discover what works best for you.
On to the questions
The first question I ask myself… Is such a simple question to type, but one so hard to answer…
How am I feeling? (after I have lied to myself and tried to convince myself I am fine…)
How are you REALLY feeling?
When listening to my body, what does it need? A hug? A deep breath? Movement? Nourishment? Rest?
One question I always seem to ask myself and know the answer to, but I never know how to fix it and also can make me grumpy, and throw me off my rhythm is…
Am I getting enough sleep?
If I am not sleeping 8 hours a day. Am I getting a good QUALITY of sleep?
I noticed that if I am not getting enough sleep it is normally because something is on my mind. So I need to figure out what it is and try to get it under control. Not always easy, but sometimes a brain dump helps. JOURNAL PEOPLE JOURNAL!! Can’t recommend it enough!
World Mental Health Day
If I am not getting enough sleep is it because I am more anxious or worried about something?
What would help calm down my anxiety and my constant need to worry?
Sometimes life pulls you in the direction that needs more focus than others. Which sometimes is okay, but when you are doing too much of one thing the other things suffer. As well as your mental health.
Were any boundaries that I put in place for others and myself pushed or crossed that I need to assert louder that it is a deal-breaker?
Is my life balance right now?
Am I getting enough me time, family/friends time, and time at work?
Have I been moodier lately?
Trouble concentrating?
Fatigued by the end of the day?
Once I answer the basic questions of sleep, work/life balance, and my mood. I feel a little bit better. Like I have a bit more clarity on what was going on.
Questions for gratitude
What is something that I have done lately that makes me so proud of myself?
Is there something that I can do that is loving and supportive of me?
What made me laugh or smile recently?
What movie, book, blog, or article affected your life for the better recently?
(hopefully, you say this one, Shameless plug LOL)
What is different today than it was a year ago that I’m grateful for?
What’s something that inspired or touched you recently?
What about today has been better than yesterday?
I just love really good questions that make you think about yourself, what makes you happy, what you think is good or bad. You really get a sense of yourself and who you are as a person.
What’s something you witnessed recently that reminded you that life is good?
What’s something you witnessed recently that reminded you that people are good?
Have you recently imagined a worst-case scenario that didn’t actually happen?
What’s the last thing you enjoyed with your senses—a good meal, a song you love, or aromatherapy. Describe that experience in detail.

World Mental Health Day
I gave you 13 questions to get shit off your chest and 11 questions to show gratitude. It is a good routine to have to check in with yourself on a regular basis. Doesn’t have to be every day, but once every couple of weeks. Maybe as far as once a month. It really depends on you and what you are comfortable doing. World Mental Health Day is for you to check in on yourself, not others. But it’s okay to ask if they are okay and then send them this blog post.
I hope you guys feel a little bit better doing a mental health check-in on yourself!
Until tomorrow, have a great day! Remember you are a badass!
Love the gratitude questions
