I can’t be the only one who gets sucked into watching the viral challenges on YouTube. I swear when I start binge-watching videos, it becomes very dangerous. Dangerously spicy… I can across the Spicy Noodle Challenge.
A Couple of weeks ago I fell down the rabbit hole and couldn’t climb my way out. I came across videos called “The Spicy Noodle Challenge” and Mike found me in all my amazement and confusion on why people would do this. Mike is not one for YouTube videos, he will watch them if Mikayla and I put them.
Well, this is what happened that day… He just watched because it was on, but quickly got intrigued.
YouTube brings families together
For those of you who know Mike, know he can be a bit competitive. He sees someone do something and his initial response is “I could do that” or “I taught them that”. I know it’s more so as a joke, but there is some truth to it and he thinks he could anything.
A prime example as I am typing this we were watching this video of Brendon Urie from Panic! At the disco doing a backflip off a slight high-rise drum set. His response was “I taught him that”.
This is what happened while watching those YouTube videos. He saw all these people doing the “Spicy Noodle Challenge” and decided he wanted to try them because he could handle it better. I know, I know… we are late to the game for this, I’m sorry.
Let’s Go Shopping
Scouring the Asian markets around our city was an adventure in itself apparently they are few and far between, but we finally found them. They cost 5.95 for 5 packs. Once he had them in his hands he was like a giddy little school girl. He was so excited.
After this first taste of spiciness, he was hooked. This right here sparked his joy for spicy food. That’s how we got into making the hot sauce (that will be for another post).
If you have a hard time finding an Asian Market in your area, I did find them online and if you click the picture below it will take you to a website to buy them. No affiliation, just wanted to make it easy for you guys.
Let’s make it a family challenge
However, with this “challenge” it couldn’t just be Mike and me. This is after all a site that promotes family adventures, so we brought in Mikayla and my Nephew Nathan. Mikayla’s first response was “Heck NO!” but then agreed, because she is competitive too.
If Daddy does something, she can do it as well. In addition to her hesitance, Nathan was ecstatic, because he also saw the videos and wanted to do it, but no one would do it with him.
Although Mikayla doesn’t like spicy food, she wanted to try at least one bite. Of course, we are not going to make her do anything she doesn’t want to.
In the video, she at first only ate 1 noodle, but we did push her a little bit to at least follow through with the one bite she said she would do. She tried and didn’t like it. So, She doesn’t have to do it again unless she wants to.
Try things at least once
That’s the motto in our household: Hence, if we try something once and if we don’t like it we don’t do it again unless we want to. Although this was a “very hot challenge”, it did spark our love for spicy foods that we didn’t know we had.
(If you notice I am putting “challenge” in quotations because it really wasn’t a “Spicy Noodle Challenge”. We weren’t trying to beat each other or anyone else, we just wanted to try something we had never done before and I think that’s the lesson here, just have fun and try things. So it should be called the “Spicy Noodle Adventure”)
Spicy Noodle Challenge
If you ever, I mean EVER try these noodles, forewarning, these are hot, hotter than expected. However, I guess that was the point right? What annoys me so much about these noodles is not only are they spicy as heck but they also taste so freaking good! Hard to believe right… Something with that much heat has a good flavor? Yeah, I was surprised too. Just that heat prevented most of us from eating more. I want to know if they make a pack with those flavors, but with a little less heat kick.
You are probably asking yourselves… would you guys do it again… Abso-freakin-lutely. Now that we have experienced that type of heat, I think we could be better at it. Especially since we have been trying to make different hot sauces and eating spicy food.
If you follow us on Instagram or the Facebook group, you would see we are on a spice kick. Picking up any spicy things we can get our hands on.
Although the main feature of this blog was the spicy noodles. The laughter that was had while recording this video and the pain others were in made memories we won’t be able to forget. It’s scorched into our memories. (Ha-ha, see what I did there…of course you did. If not comment asking me what it’s about)
Let us know if you have done this or want to…
I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with the kiddos. In the end, it’s all about making memories with the kids. Mike was in heaven and definitely enjoyed this. After doing this they wanted to do a nasty food challenge. We have already filmed it, just a bit slow on the editing, but will be coming out on YouTube in the next couple of weeks. So keep an eye out for that.
Thank you guys for reading, I hope you guys enjoyed this little behind-the-scenes of how the Spicy Noodle Adventure came about.
Definitely comment and let us know if you have tried the Spicy Noodle Challenge or are going to attempt doing it. Share the links if you recorded it as well.
If you want to get to know us a little bit more check out this post. We would like to get to know you guys as well.
Until next time guys, have a great day!
Haha, your family sounds fab! I’m a huge fan of spicy food so I reckon this would be less of a challenge and more of a delight! Loving your family dynamic! x

We have been on a Spicy kick and just bought a Carolina Reaper plant to start growing. Also got a Jalapeno plant with 3 little Jalapeno babies on it .lol Hot Sauce here we come!
Sounds like a fun challenge! I don’t know if I’d be up for this, it sounds too spicy for my tastes haha
I didn’t think I would either. What made it harder is that even though they are hot… they tasted so good. It was hard not to like them.
My brother recommended I may like this website. He was totally right. This put up truly made my day. You cann’t believe just how much time I had spent for this info! Thanks!
