I have been using Pinterest since 2010 when it was an invite-only and image-sharing site. For over 10 years I have been using this platform and have never had my account suspended. I am in aww that Pinterest suspended my account. The only email ever received from Pinterest was if a pin had to be deleted because it was possible spam. Which I am totally fine with. I know they are trying to cut down on the spammers, but in 10 years I have never done anything to hint in any way, shape, or form. I was a spammer.
In 10 years this is the only year I really started using my Pinterest account as part of my business. I mean my Blogiversary was 4 days ago and this is the congratulations I get from Pinterest!
What Happened?
I am in a blogger group Bloggers Supporting Each Other and I join a thread where I was going to follow other bloggers’ Pinterest boards. You know networking… Trying to make other blogger friends.
I was going slow looking at pins and pinning things from their boards. After all that I would follow them. I got 11 people in and then it wouldn’t let me follow anyone. I left a comment in the group like “Hey, I am trying here, but nothing is working.” We were going on day 3 of not being able to follow people, but I could pin.
Here I am thinking its a glitch on Pinterest. Today being fed up with not being able to follow people I log out and go to log back in and it sends me THIS NOTIFICATION:
Pinterest Suspended My Account
GUYS I AM IN PINTEREST JAIL!!
What is Pinterest jail you ask? ‘Pinterest Jail’, as bloggers call it, is when your Pinterest account gets suspended. And from what I have read about it, it doesn’t take a lot for this to happen. Pinterest says they sent me an email stating the reason for my suspension, but looking in my email and going through spam/deleted emails. Nothing was ever received.
I am not a spammer.
Nothing was rushed. I was taking my time following my fellow bloggers.
I instantly jumped on to appeal the process.
***First things first, either take a video or a screencap of your desktop or your phone’s screen. You will need this later.***
How to appeal the Pinterest Suspension
If you find yourself in a similar situation. There should be a link that says “get in touch with us” when you get that notification you were suspended or if you don’t see it go to Pinterest’s Contact Page.
These are the steps on Pinterest’s Contact Page:
The second thing you are going to do is click on the link in the first picture I showed that says “get in touch with us”. That is going to bring you to this page.
Click the 3rd option that says Appeal Account Suspension and then click continue. It will then bring you to a page where you will enter your account information. Fill it out to the best of your ability.
Give them your information
Describe the issue
Once you fill it out and hit continue it will then take you to this page where you can describe the issue on why your Pinterest account was suspended.
I, myself put in the subject Account Suspension and for the Description, I put the following:
“My Pinterest account was suspended and I do not know why? I never received an email stating I violated the guidelines. Please explain what has happened and let me fix it.”
What device are you using?
When you are done with that click continue and it will bring you to a page asking what type of device are you using.
I could have gone either way because It was getting the Pinterest account suspension on both my desktop and my phone app.
I chose the easier option which was my desktop and Chrome.
Remember the video/screenshot
After this screen, it takes you to a page where you can submit that video or screenshot of the Pinterest account suspension.
I sent them the first photo I showed. I clicked continue and this turned out to be the final screen of the appeal process.
Review your information
This was just to review your account and verify that all your information is correct.
If the information you provided is correct hit submit. The appeals process is now over with.
This is not the end
As soon as I submitted my information I received an email from Pinterest that kind of confused me.
I ended up replying 3 more times to give them all the information they needed. Even as a precaution I reset my password for Facebook in case someone tried to hack me. (I just blocked out my personal info.)
As of right now, I am waiting for a response. It is Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at 5:32p. I will update this when I get a response.
**Update**
I ended up emailing them again this morning at 10:24a. I also tried appealing again through the link provided at the beginning. It didn’t work, but then I noticed I had an email from Pinterest. They must be an hour behind me because I received an email at 9:20a.
Lovely Margo reactivated my account. The only sentence that bothered me was….”Occasionally good accounts get caught in the mix when looking for spammy accounts???” I was grateful, but I did reply Thanking her and asking what about my account put up a red flag.
Not wanting to press the issue further… My reply was a short and simple response and I am leaving it at that.
My Pinterest account is back, but my numbers have gone down. I am a little disappointed in that, but what can you do except work harder.
All that matters, in the end, is that I have my account back. I am going to read the Acceptable Use Policy and I am going to educate myself so this does not happen again. I hope this helps anyone who has experienced a similar situation. If you know me you know I am too much of a good two shoes to do anything wrong. I don’t like being banned or suspended. I don’t like it when people don’t like me, especially when I am here trying to be a positive person. Anyways, learn from my mistakes.
Until Next Time, Have a Great Day
