Hey Guys, I am back this week with a cheap date night at home. Mike and I have become hermits in our 7 years together. Consequently, our weekdays are normally spent at home, because of work. He has to get up early every day between 3a-5a depending on the job he has to do and I work mostly nights. Therefore, on the weekends when we have Mikayla, we plan those days around her finding fun/educational things to do.
Have a date night at home!
On a rare occasion, when Mike and I have the same day off and we don’t have Mikayla. One of us is trying to plan a date night. Although we are so out of the loop, we normally spend our time driving around with the deer in headlights look.
We don’t want to spend a lot of money or end up at a bar for karaoke, which is rare for me to turn down. However, when this happens and we are just not feeling it. 8 and out of 10 times we end up getting take out and go home to do what we normally do. Which is to watch a movie and sit on the opposite sides of the couch. I know were so romantic. #relationshipgoals
Never stop dating your SO
Since our weekdays always go, go, go and the weekends revolve around our time with Mikayla. We normally end up putting our date nights on the back burner. I know, I know You should never do that. After discussing it, and coming to the conclusion we need to spend more time together as a couple and not just people who work all week and are too tired to do anything.
The effort needed to be made. We decided to make things easier for ourselves and came to the conclusion to have a cheap date night at home since we are horrible people and don’t know how to have adult fun outside of the house. Furthermore, being at home in your jammies is just so much more comfortable.
Changing up our surroundings
I told Mike a couple of weeks ago that in the event that we didn’t have Mikayla on the weekend, We were going to spend our weekend doing nothing. I mean abso-freakin-lutely nothing. Not a single thing.
I told him Friday night he would move the TV and X-Box into the bedroom, we will get dinner and snacks to just chill in bed all night watching movies, talking, and cuddling. Without reservation, He agreed. He knew a cheap date night at home is what we needed.
Be comfortable
Although, we did this on a regular basis on the couch. It was weird/nice to sit on our bed. I don’t think we sit enough on our bed. We are normally only in their sleeping. However, we found it more comfortable because we could lay down.
Furthermore, we could cuddle like we normally would in bed, but had the luxury of watching a movie. Cuddling on the couch is kinda uncomfortable for both of us. His arm hurts, my neck hurts. Just bad vibes all around.
Move the TV/Xbox for a cheap date night at home
I am a firm believer in not having a TV in the bedroom. Why am I like that? To illustrate what it was like when Mike and I first moved in together. He was sharing a house with his grandfather who couldn’t live alone. In the end, Mike and I basically lived in his bedroom. We ate, watched TV, hung out all day every day on our bed.
When his grandfather passed and we got our own place I said the TV was not to be in the bedroom. We have a whole house with a living room. Whereas before we just had a bedroom. Therefore, we were going to use the living room for what it was intended for… living. The bedroom is for sleeping. Again, Mike agreed with me.
Bonding more without a TV
For the next 6 years, a TV wouldn’t be in our bedroom. In fact, because of this, we end our nights not staring at a screen but actually talking to each other. Firstly, making bedtime my favorite time of the day. It’s the time when Mike and I are so deliriously tired and goofy.
Secondly, Our best inside jokes come from the time before we go to sleep. I like to cherish that time. Thus we only bring the TV in the bedroom for special occasions and it had been years since we had good ol’ veg out in bed.
Plan a cheap date night at home
We didn’t have Mikayla on this particular weekend. So, Mike picked up BOGO steak and chicken cheesesteaks for dinner. Shout out to Dino’s Pizza and Subs. He always has BOGO sandwiches and loads each box with fries. It is dinner tonight and lunches the next day. Love saving money. It cost us about 20 bucks.
When Mike got home, I was just getting off of work at 9:30p. We went to the store real quick to pick up snacks and drinks, spending about 15 bucks. At this point, we probably spent about 35 dollars on our cheap date night at home.
You could make it even cheaper by nixing the take-out and make something at home.
Creating a comfy place
We got home to resume our date night. I heated up the sandwiches, got the bed all comfy with all of our supplies to veg out, while Mike moved the TV and X-Box onto the dresser. Afterward, we picked some movies to watch. We ended up watching Batman and then Catwoman. We love those movies.
Nevertheless, we spent our time enjoying our food, and then we were able to cuddle afterward because as I have said before, on the couch it is too uncomfortable to do that. Our cats joined in our date night, because why not..? LOL, We wound up staying up really late had a blast talking and catching up on life.
Stick to just a cheap date night at home
Granted we didn’t get to sleep in the next day, I promised my Aunt we would go see her and it was worth it. Although, after this weekend we won’t have Mikayla for the next 2 weekends. Meaning, we will have to figure something out to do with ourselves. In other words, we will plan on doing this again.
Although, nothing will be planned for the next day. We will stay in bed all of Friday and all of Saturday. All things considered, you don’t have to plan an extravagant date night. Just do what you guys enjoy. As long as you connect and discuss things to make sure you guys are still on the same page. I call it a good night.
If you want to check out my post on how Mike and I do a life audit to make sure we are on the same page. Also, let me know in the comments what you guys do for a cheap date night…
