It is not easy trying to change your mindset. It doesn’t happen overnight, but so worth it if you continue to work on it day by day.
Tell me if you can relate. I spent years down in the dumps just thinking negatively, and always second-guessing myself. Thinking that the shit storm called my life was what the universe was giving me because I was a shitty person who deserved shitty things. Always look for the worst-case scenario and would say I KNEW IT when the other shoe would drop.
Have you ever felt like that in your life or now you are in that situation just wondering how to get out of that mindset? I will tell you it was hard to switch from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. It was EVEN harder getting out of my negative Nancy mindset. Still to this day, I catch myself and physically have to stop what I am doing to be like “Girl, you better knock that shit off”.
I want to share a few videos that I watched or just listened to that really helped change my mindset and set me on the path of my personal growth journey. It gave me a new perspective on life and really opened my eyes to how negative I actually was.
Doing a life audit every month or every few months helps me stay on track with what my goals are in life. It is a way to see if my mindset is shifting to something new or if I am slipping back into my old ways.
Change your mindset
First I have to start with Mel Robbins who has become my absolute favorite go-to author or motivator when it comes to my personal growth journey. I wish I would have found her sooner, but I have been binge-ing all of her content and books. This video she just put on the 8th, but it just sparked that flame under my caboose to make sure I continue to work on changing my mindset.
RESET Your MINDSET | The Secret To Having A Mindset of a High Achiever | Mel Robbins
My Takeaway from Mel
What I took away from this video was the first comment I saw. Mehran Hashmi posted a quote that said “Take risks in your life. If you win, you can lead; if you lose, you can guide.” I think this is so important for others to see. It all depends on your mindset. What I love is that if you lose you can guide. If you lose it doesn’t mean you suck or that you are unworthy. If you lose that means you can take your experiences and share them with others to guide them through what they are going through.
My favorite part from the video is when she asks “What your limiting belief is?” What is the one thing or multiple things you tell yourself to stop you from living the life you want? For me it was always I am not good enough, I am not pretty enough and I am not skinny enough. I was NEVER enough.
Once I realized that those were my default auto-responses to myself… I would stop whatever I was trying to do because I was enough to do it. My default thinking would talk myself out of doing what I wanted to do. I spent a majority of my like playing it safe. And to reference the quote I started this off with… “Take risks in your life. If you win, you can lead; if you lose, you can guide.” I am here to lead myself to victory but if I lose some battles along the way the least I can do is share my experiences and guide others to learn from my little hick-up.
Mel also has a 35-day challenge to change your mindset. You can check out the full playlist HERE.
Use These HACKS to UPGRADE Your Mindset
Tom Bilyeu brought up a good point in this video about implementation. You are motivated to do something but motivation is not going to get you anywhere. What I mean is that I am motivated to lose weight. I am doing all the research and coming up with meal plans, but all that stuff I am doing doesn’t mean anything unless I start implementing it into my life. I can do all the research in the world because I am “motivated” to lose weight, but it’s complete bullshit unless I start ACTUALLY doing it in real life. When a week or month or even a year goes by I am upset at myself for wasting all this time instead of just picking one new healthy meal to perfect and going outside for a 15-minute walk every day.
Motivation is a great thing to have. It will open the door for you, but it won’t make you walk through.
How To Change Mindset Motivational Speaker: LES BROWN
Les Brown is the reason why I decided to share my story. To share what I am working through week after week. It is this part right here in the video that pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I think if you watch this video he will change your mindset too.
When Les said this I stopped myself in my own tracks…
How many of you have a story? How many of you have gone through some things in life that you could teach them to other people? Teach people to deliver a message of hope and give people methods and techniques that will help them to change their lives and begin to move their lives to another level. You have something special, you have greatness within you That story you have can impact people’s lives.
Are you ready to change your mindset?
I know not everyone has all the time in the world to spend hours watching videos on personal growth and how to change your mindset… One tip I can give is tossing in a headphone and to listen while you are doing something else that doesn’t require you to use your brain. Things that you can go autopilot on. Putting away laundry, washing the dishes, sweeping and mopping the floor.
I definitely think you could get some really good info from it. Take what resonates with you and what doesn’t stash it in your advice bank to help other people. That is what I do. I soak up all the information I can get and use what applies to me and what doesn’t I will save for when family, friends, or readers ask questions. I can recommend things to you that pertain to what you are asking.
Let me know in the comments below what is your favorite video/book/movie that helped you change your mindset or you think would help someone change their mindset?
Until next time, have a great day! Remember you are a badass!
I love these! Especially connected with the second video because I feel like I’m drowning sometimes. Very much appreciate you sharing!!!
I can relate. At least one time a day I feel like I am drowning. But I just pick one thing I have to get done and do it. Even if that is all I do for the day I am okay with it. Normally when I do that one thing sometimes it ends up becoming a waterfall effect and I continue doing all the other things. Focusing on one task makes me feel less drowning because I am not focusing on everything else I have to do. We are only human and it is okay if you don’t get EVERYTHING done. We did what we could handle for that day.
Thank you for this blog post, I learned something new today and it inspire me even more to look on the positive side.
That’s all you can do is look for the positive in a shitty situation.
There is great advice here. I often have the motivation, but I lack in the implementation. I think I’m doing something because I’m preparing for a change or project. But the reality is, often it’s just busy work and something to check off my two do list. This is something I need to work on.
Yes!! This right here is great. I relate to this so much. I always say I am “busy” doing amazing things but in reality, I am just doing busywork. I am nowhere closer to what I actually want to be doing. It is that implementation that is a bitch to start. LOL
I think Les Brown’s words speak to me a lot. I got into a fight with someone recently who said it was fine to be just where I was. I was like no, it isn’t. I like to be challenged. I want to be out of my comfort zone. Just being overly positive is not enough for me, I need honest feedback. I am not the perfect person, get me a challenge and feedback to grow.
That is perfectly fine for them. If they are comfortable being where they are in life… congrats to them. But some of us know that we are made for more and need that constant challenge, that constant wonder to explore this great big world and experience everything life has to offer. No need to fight about it, just agree to disagree and move on. Your life is going in a different direction than theirs and that is fine.
Those videos are truly amazing. IT really helps us change our mindset. I should recommned listening or buying a book of Dr Jordan Peterson. http://www.oganiza.com
Which book? I love finding new books to read. Please share so others may pick it up as well.
These videos are so helpful within changing your perspective and the way that you think. Thank you for these mindset changing videos! They’re definitely going to be beneficial.
You are so welcome Jasmine. That is all I want to do on Our Redonkulous Life is to share anything and everything that is helping change my mindset and also helping me become the best version of myself.
Interesting post. You compiled a good selection of videos.
