I know I will probably do another post about this in November, but there is just so much to be grateful for. I am always self-reflecting, being all nostalgic and shit. I think it has something to do with growing up poor. I just always want to appreciate and show how grateful I am for ALL the amazing things that happen in my life. So I want to share with you 10 things I am grateful for this Fall season.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”
What I think he meant was that anything big or small deserves your gratitude and appreciation. It could be something as simple and small as finding matching socks in the morning to as big as getting married or getting a promotion. There are just as many small insignificant things that happen in my life that I am grateful for.
Greater Good Magazine published an article that showed gratitude changes you and your brain. After conducting their study, they found that people who wrote letters of gratitude once a week for 3 weeks had better mental health 1-3 months after finishing the exercise.
Decorating for Halloween
When Mike and I got together in 2012 we never lived anywhere where children could come trick or treating. We don’t really “go out” for Halloween. So most years we would just offer to work. Our last 2 houses before this house in Tampa we so far set back and they were not in regular neighborhoods. We did decorate but no one really got to see it.
From February to October we saw so many people walking by our house. We knew we had to decorate. It made us so happy to bring joy to others especially during the lockdowns. This year we upped our game. It has been so much fun decorating since mid-September. It brings us joy seeing people taking pictures and giving us compliments.
Falling Back (extra sleep)
November 7th we fall back. Falling back means we get an extra hour to sleep!! I always look forward to this day every year. I appreciate it so much that it had to be one of the things I am grateful for
Growth and perspective
Since starting this blog in 2019. I have learned so much about myself. I thought I learned a lot in my 20s. NO! I am learning so much more in my 30s. I am so excited and grateful for the next stage of my life.
Creativity
Again since starting this blog I have pushed myself outside of my comfort zone. It has opened a part of me I thought I lost forever. For the past 2 years, I have been able to share my creativity through the written word, videos, and a podcast. I am not consistent with the videos or podcasts, but I still have so much fun making them when I do.
We have to give gratitude to our creative passions give us an escape in life we can be thankful for.
My failures
I never regret any decisions I have made in my life. Some have been really good and some have turned out to be not so good. Whatever decision I made… It has always led me to be the person I am today. It has given me the experience to tell others my ups and downs to help aid them in their decision-making.
I will never tell you what to do because it is your life, but I will give you all the information I have to help you make the best decision. In the end, you go with your gut and have faith. Things will work out how they are meant to be.
Inspirational people
I have so many people in my life who inspire me and none of them live near me! WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! My sister for putting her life back together after moving to another state. Debbie, my cousin for just working her ass off for everything she has and being appreciative of everything that comes her way.
Stephanie, my pen pal from Canada. She is the most beautiful and sweetest woman I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I don’t deserve her. Speaking of people I don’t deserve… Danielle… Your meat suit holds the most beautiful soul ever. You have been through so much and yet you still look on the bright side EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME! I love you bish!
Earning money
Slowly but surely I have been making money from blogging. It is not a lot but it is enough for me to be grateful every time I get the notification I got paid. I do a little dancy dance every time. I appreciate it so much when a brand or company wants to work with me. I appreciate it even more when those who read my blog click on my affiliate links. I always tell you that you don’t have to, but some of you guys are the freakin best! you know who you are and I love you!
Handing out Halloween candy
As I said before we lived in places where kids would not come to trick or treat. We moved to Tampa in 2020 and had our first official Halloween. We thought it was going to be slow because of covid. All of our neighbors said it was going to be slow. I made 75 candy bags with glow sticks and I was out in 45 minutes. Mike had to get out of his costume to do a mid-candy run. This year we have gone all out on our decorations outside and we will NOT have to do a mid-candy run. It is the most fun we have had on Halloween.
Coffee. Coffee. Coffee.
I no function in the morning without coffee. I need coffee. Coffee. Coffee. It will always be one of the things I am grateful for. If I do one of these lists for Thanksgiving… you best believe COFFEE will be on that list! LOL
Watching Hocus Pocus a Bajillion Times Before Halloween
This one is self-explanatory. I watch hocus pocus any chance I get until October 31st. When I am not watching Hocus Pocus I am watching one of my childhood Halloween movies.
Then I watch some Thanksgiving movies. The classics like Son-in-law with Paulie Shore, Grumpy old men, and The Addams Family Values. Then I watch The Nightmare Before Christmas from Mid-November till Christmas. LOL
10 things I am grateful for
There is so much more that I am grateful for, but I don’t want to bore you with my mushy gushy bullshit. What is something small that you for grateful for this fall season? Let me know in the comments below!
Until tomorrow, have a great day! Remember you are a badass!
It is good to find things to be grateful for and reflect on the good things which happen.
We will be decorating for Halloween sometime next week. I can’t wait and I can’t wait for that extra hour in bed. I think our clocks change at the end of this month.
It sounds like you have so many amazing people in your life. x
I am patiently waiting for Halloween, but I am even MORE patiently waiting for that extra hour of sleep.
