I have had this idea for GOD for at least 2 years but I never wrote it. When thinking of this week’s post I had 2 different posts started. I just wasn’t feeling them and then all of the sudden while doing dishes the ABCs of personal growth came rushing to the forefront of my mind. Like “YOU SHOULD WRITE THIS NOW!!” So now here we are.
When I first started my personal growth journey I was a little lost on how to become a better version of myself. I definitely didn’t know how to work through my trauma or my toxic traits. If you are anything like me you feel like a deer in headlights.
So many blog posts and websites tell you all these things you can do to be more productive or how to journal for anxiety which is great. I highly recommend posts like that. If you are just starting out you need something a little more concrete for yourself.
Something that can help you when you are in a slump and a little lost on your journey. I am writing this as a good base list, but I encourage you to write your own list of the things that mean the most to you. The things you want to work on that pertain to your life and current situation.
This is your little guided push to keep you on the path of a growth mindset. To learn who you are and why you are the way you are by learning from past behaviors and situations.
Let’s start off with the ABCs of personal growth
A – Appreciation – a feeling of being grateful for something. The ability to understand the worth, quality, or importance of something. You have the full awareness or understanding of something
B – Boundaries – Can be personal or professional limits and rules we set for ourselves within relationships. We don’t let others take advantage of us and have no problem saying no if we need to.
C – Courage – When you dig down deep inside of yourself and find the strength to do something that may frighten you. Building up strength in the face of pain or grief.
D – Determination – You have a strong feeling that you are going to do something and that you will not allow anyone or anything to stop you. : not weak or uncertain: having or showing determination to do something.
E – Encouraging – Giving someone support or confidence. Being supportive to those around you and yourself. You are not in competition with anyone.
F – Forgiveness – You are making a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you. You do this regardless of whether they actually deserve it or not. It is for your peace of mind, not theirs. You forgive but you don’t forget.
G – Goals – You have an objective or target that you are trying to reach or achieve. You know your worth and what you want out of life and will not settle for less.
Quarter way through
H – Healing – Somehow you find a way to become free from injury. It could be a physical injury or it could be internal. You heal things that do not sit right with you. Like healing your inner child. Sometimes doing shadow work can really help. I did mine publicly on my Youtube channel.
I – Intuitive – Subconsciously you have a feeling something is off or something magical is going to happen because your gut/instincts tell you it is.
J – Joyful – No matter the state of the world or in you internally you always look for happiness. It doesn’t mean you will ALWAYS be happy… but you know happiness will always be there when you get out of your funk.
K – Kind – With all the things that go on in our crazy rollercoaster of a life you always find a way to be a warm-hearted and considerate person. All of your ups and downs have not deterred you from being sympathetic to others.
L – Learning – With each experience, you have you are being taught. Going to the grocery store, reading a book, study, or learning a new skill. Always be a constant learner. Knowledge is power. Power to know yourself, your surroundings, and those around you.
M – Motivated – You are drive to go above and beyond. Within yourself, you have this confidence in your abilities and dream of the never-ending possibilities you have for yourself and those around you.
Half way through the ABCs of personal growth
N – Nurturing – Although you are on your own journey you care for and encourage the growth or development of others.
O – Optimistic – When needed you are hopeful and confident for the future. Things may not always go your way, but you are on a path to greatness and the best possible things will eventually happen in due time.
P – Powerful – Inside you have this beacon of power that radiates and attracts others to you. You have this ability to control or influence people or things. You are a force to be reckoned with.
Q – Quality – These are the standards you have set for yourself in your little slice of the world. It should always be QUALITY over QUANTITY.
R – Reflection – Carefully thoughts and thinking of the past, present, and future of you, situations, and people. Looking back to find the lesson that you were to learn from that event.
S – Spiritual – Looking for the deeper meaning in everything. You are not about the material or physical things. You recognize the feeling or sense of your belief that there is something bigger than yourself.
T – Transforming – Undergoing a change in a dramatic form. From caterpillar to butterfly. Shedding your cocoon (old self) and becoming free to be unapologetically you.
Almost there…
U – Understanding – You are sympathetically aware of yourself and those around you. You acknowledge them and their feelings. You see them and sympathize with the situation.
V – Valued – You realize that you are deserving and are important. Holding yourself and those around you to high standards. You are worthy.
W – Worthy – You are entitled to respect and attention. Not only from others but from yourself. You have desirable qualities and are amazing.
(This next one was a little hard, but I got it!!!)
X – Xenomania – Gaining pleasure from meeting strangers or visiting foreign countries. You love meeting new people because it is an opportunity to make real connections and learn new things.
Y – Yearning – There is this feeling of intense longing for something. A better life, a better job, better friends. Just being a better you. Wishing for something that you cannot have or get easily. It is not impossible, but you do have to work for it.
Z – Zen -Through everything you have been through the ups, the downs, the highs, and the lows. You are peaceful and calm about everything. Working on yourself and learning about what makes you… well, you. It gives you this enlightenment. Not that you are “better” than anyone else… but you are surely better than you were before.
Are you inspired to make your list or follow this one?
This list has gotten me out of a few jams while on my personal growth journey. If at any time I am unsure if I have learned anything I refer back to this list. These are things that I want as my daily morals and values, as well as things I need to work on and learn.
I do hope this inspires you to make your own ABCs of personal growth… If not use mine until you feel comfortable doing it yourself.

I think one of the most important item on this list is boundaries! SO important!
YES! It has been a hard one but so necessary.
This is an awesome list, every point is good to ponder upon and improve personal growth. Thanks so much for sharing. I love it.
The list is made to make you stop and think.
great!
Thank you!
Wow! This is impressive! And informative. Even though I am not at the beginning of this journey — I think the journey continues until you die — there are sections here that are giving me other things to consider for myself! Thank you for sharing!
Personal growth is something that happens constantly. It’s not take 6 months and you will be a completely different person. Sometimes those A-HA moments don’t happen till years later where things just click in your head.
That’s awesome you organized the letters with awesome and great meaning.

Thank you so much, Frank!
Haha Xenomania!!!! I am experiencing that. In fact, I have been for like 8 years and I love it. Great personal development content. Keep it up!
I had 3 options for X, but Xenomania just fit better. Since being on a personal growth journey I liked meeting new people. I like learning about them and from them.
Makes sense! Me too. You learn so much about others and about yourself through the process.
I have learned so much about myself and others that it sometimes makes the hard decisions I put off quite easy. LOL
Thank you for these inspiring words. I love reading them.
You are so welcome, Risa!
I really enjoyed this ABCs guide for personal growth. I know I definitely need to apply some of these a bit more.
They come and go when you need them the most.
This is wonderful! Mine would be Determination, Goal, Learning, and Optimistic. These words pretty much sum up my life! Insightful post as always, Michele!
Those are really great words. I love them all.
wow! such a lovely abc idea! I find it incredibly inspiring. totally pinning it for later too!
That is amazing!
I will like this, Michelle, and they are all tied together, if you appreciate the little things in your life, you will have the courage and determination to continue to your goals.
They are all tied together!
This is amazing that you have a word for each letter that deals with personal growth. I feel like you could write a book about this!
Awww, thank you and that is eventually the plan.
I love this list – so clever. One of my favorite letters would be X, by the way 😉 So enriching!
I threw that one in for my peeps that love to travel and meet new people. LOL
I’ve been working on my own personal growth a lot recently, so I love love love this! I am also SO impressed you were able to come up with something for every letter, that’s amazing!
It took a little bit but I did it. LOL X was the hardest.
Personal growth is continuous process to be a better greater self, really had an inspiring read here. Cheers Siennylovesdrawing.wordpress.com
Thank you so much Sienny! I appreciate your comment.
So creative. I’m surprised with the “x”. I’m not familiar with that word until here
The more you know! 🌈
M – Motivated – You are drive to go above and beyond. Within yourself, you have this confidence in your abilities and dream of the never-ending possibilities you have for yourself and those around you.
I need more motivation, to get back to where I was physically before lockdown. This M made me feel inspired, thanks for sharing!
Aimee, I think we all need a little bit more motivation after our lockdown. It has been a rough couple of years.
I can relate to this ABC’s personal growth. We may be learning things as we grow old and make mistakes, but that won’t stop me from doing the things that make me happy and inspire me to achieve my goals in life. Appreciate small things in your life and be a better version of your past.
That is one thing I have learned as I get older. The small things in life now normally mean the most and whoever you were back then is NOT who you have to be now.
We need to keep growing every day and I think it’s a good tip for the readers to be inspired and get to action 🙂 – Knycx Journeying
I hope those who do stumble upon this post are inspired.
This is such a brilliant post. Personal growth is so important to me because only then I can I achieve my full potential. The letter meaning are such powerful attributes that are truly the key for growth.
I agree it is important to me because I am trying to be better than who I was before.
This is a good activity to do tomorrow, hmmm!A to Z is what I shall do like this one!
Let me know what you would add to this list?
I love these! Personal growth is ongoing and I use a lot of learning and reflection myself
Me too. I am constantly looking for new ways to learn more about myself and others.
I’ve never seen this concept before but I love it! Each letter was a great point which you explain wonderfully
Thank you I appreciate your comment.
It’s still hard for me to set boundaries, but I am learning to do so and it’s really powerful.
I hear ya, Marjie. I have a problem with people disliking me and setting a boundary feels like they will not like me. I have been working on not feeling guilty about decisions I make about myself and my family. It is SOOOOO FREAKIN HARD THOUGH!
