Why this topic came about?
I was reminded a few weeks ago in a Facebook Memory about playing Canasta on Yahoo Games. That was something my mom and I did back in the day. I can hear Mike now “That’s an old person game!” It might be, but I freakin love it! My mom taught me from a young age how to play.
We would spend hours playing canasta in real life. As time went on and the internet became a thing. We found Yahoo Games and would have multiple games going on. I used to still next to my mom and help her play Solitare. My mom and I would “connect” through playing Online Brain Games. That was the fun part of my childhood.
I wrote that status in October of 2016. Yahoo announced that its game section would be dissolved completely on May 13, 2016. I would have loved to play one more game of canasta before it was shut down.
With all that happening I decided to look online to find another place to play games online for free. I came across the site Plays.org they don’t have canasta, but they have some pretty could games you can play.
Online Brain Games
Mahjong
I have spent the past couple of weeks finding new games to play. I forgot how much games can stimulate your mind. Don’t judge me for my game choices, but I like games that challenge me. So the first game I found on Plays.org after I of course looked up Canasta was Mahjong!
I love Mahjong and forgot how much fun it is to play. You gotta move quickly against that timer. Some of those tiles look too much alike. There has been some confusion. LOL. I have been playing this every morning to help me wake up with my morning coffee!
If you are looking to improve your memory I highly recommend this game. According to Live Science “If you’re looking for a quick memory fix, move your eyes from side-to-side for 30 seconds, researchers say. Horizontal eye movements are thought to cause the two hemispheres of the brain to interact more with one another, and communication between brain hemispheres is important for retrieving certain types of memories”.
Moving your eyes side to side, up and down is done A LOT when playing Mahjong!
Solitare
Solitare is such a classic game. It is one of those Online Brain Games that you can zone out and be concentrated all at the same time. This card game can take less than 10 minutes to play. It is just you and your cards. No one else and no distractions.
It only took a little over 7 minutes for me to finally win this hand! LOL But I get this wave of serotonin over me when I can get them all in order. It makes me feel like everything is alright in the world. Just for a little bit. Is anyone else like that?
Mobility Ware shares The Psychological Benefits of Playing Solitaire and says that ” Playing solitaire is said to improve a person’s decision-making by helping them to enter into a calm meditative state.”
2 More Online Brain Games
Solitare Peg
I never knew the name of this game till recently. This game is Mine, Mikes, and Mikayla’s favorite game to play when we go to Cracker Barrel. I think I have probably won at this game maybe a handful of times in my life. I love that it’s kind of like a game of checkers you can play by yourself.
It’s a fun game because you have to think about where to jump and where your peg will land. Visualizing every move picturing it coming down to the dang last peg.
Solitare Peg can improve the overall development of a person. Improving hand-eye coordination enhances quick thinking ability, and also can help develop problem-solving skills.
Who knew you could get all that from a tiny little game.
Rummy
Rummy is another game I used to play with my mom. As you can see from the pictures I was a little rusty and definitely did not win. LOL. I think it is one of the better Online Brain Games to play. You have to watch what you are discarding… hoping you won’t give your opponent the cards they need. Also, make sure you pay attention to the cards you have in your hand that could go with the cards your opponent put out. You need to be on your toes for this game.
With each game of Rummy played you can take the opportunity to learn from your opponents to Improve. When starting a new game observe and notice every move your opponent makes.
Rummy is a game that demands your complete attention. (increases your concentration levels) While playing rummy, there are a few things you have to do. You need to not only concentrate on your cards but also on the cards that are discarded and picked by your opponents. Use your critical thinking skills when it comes to discarding a card in rummy.
