Happy National Plus Size Appreciation Day!
Being plus size has never been easy in a society that pushes being skinny as the norm. If you are not skinny you are disgusting. It has been a hard mindset to get out of since you have been hearing it since you were in Elementary school.
Are there days that I don’t like my body? Absolutely. Those are the days I have to give myself a little extra love and remind myself of everything my body has done for me.
Happy National Plus Size Appreciation Day!
National Plus Size Appreciation Day was founded fairly recently in 2016 by Women Rock, Inc. They work so hard to promote “self-love despite societies’ stigma”. It is a great reminder that beauty is not one size fits all. So in honor of National Plus Size Appreciation Day here are some reasons why I love my body.
My legs & feet
All the places I have been able to walk to. I have seen such beautiful places because my body has been able to walk to me there.
I walked 9 miles in 3 hours with Mike and Mikayla at Crooms Hiking Trail. Didn’t know it at the time until I looked at my Map my walk app. I had never walked 9 miles in my life. We did Loop B, the middle loop is 9.6 miles long.
We have gone to so many trails and hikes and my body has made it to and from every single time. I need to appreciate my body more and that it for allowing me to do that.
I hiked to the top of this ridge in Edison Mine in Sparta New Jersey with my Cousin Deb. Such a beautiful view. I could have stayed up there forever. We don’t have stuff like this in Florida.
My arms
My arms may be a little bit bigger than what I want… but I can tell you I give great hugs. I thank my arms for allowing me to show love and comfort those around me. Although I have not hugged anyone outside of my family in a long time. Just know I think about it a lot. A hug can do a lot for a person. I saw this post on Facebook about how many hugs we need and it was quite shocking.
My hair
I know my hair is not my body, but over the years my hair has become a security blanket. Would you be shocked if I told you I have never been to a salon as an adult? I taught myself how to cut and dye my own hair. You hear of some horror stories about hairstylists cutting off more than the person wanted and I am not changing that. If I want to chop off my hair that will be of my own accord.
Although I wear it up in a messy bun 90% of the time. When I do wear it down. I feel pretty especially when I have a good hair day. My hair and I have been through a lot. Short, long, bleaching, dyeing, perming… You name it we have most likely done it.
My body as whole
What others make call imperfections I call character. My body has character. It is not like anyone else’s body. Every freckle, scars, stretch marks, cellulite, wrinkles, etc. Those make me unique. If you have similar marks on your body just know it gives us character and expression.
My Smile
I never thought I would put this on a “reasons why I love myself” post. But I have come to love my smile. It shows others when I am enjoying something or if I am really happy. My smile can bring joy to someone’s day. That is freakin amazing! I love those moments of laughing till you are crying. Those moments are few and far between, but I cherish those moments.
My eyes
My eyes because they allow me to see beauty in everyday things. The pictures I take do not do it justice, but it is wonderful to look back and remember how I felt when I was looking at it. My eyes allow me to see things others may not and that is a cool little trick they can do.
I could keep on going but it might get a little bit weird. You know like I am actually in love with myself. How weird is that? A plus-size person who might ACTUALLY love themselves.
You don’t have to be plus-size to appreciate your body, but do support your fellow friends who are. If you are struggling with poor body acceptance I can suggest following some people on Instagram that just brighten up my feed and push me to love myself fully because no one else will. Plus we FREAKIN deserve it!

What a great day! I didn’t know it was a thing. I am plus sized and people say I give the best hugs. hehehe x
I did not know it was a thing either. But I am so glad I found out about it.
I love this post. Your body is amazing, always celebrate it. I have days where I think, oh I wish I could bend more easily, etc and then I do as you have done and tell myself what amazing things my body can do. Our bodies work so hard for us, don’t they? xxx
It is a hard habit to quit when you are so used to talking down about yourself.
It is so good to reflect on and enjoy your body! Your body, no matter how it looks, is so useful.
It has been a long time since I have enjoyed my body. But I am loving it now and that’s all that matters.
