All over my for you page on TikTok is a bunch of creators talking about them being the main character. Are you guys confused just as much as I was? Never in my life have I ever heard of that. There was not much clarity in their videos… So I took my inquiry to Urban dictionary. Which defines the main character as “Someone who you can make a movie about and have it be interesting they are quirky and not basic”. Which made me think how can I be the main character of my own life?
Because I always thought of myself as the what you would call “DUFF” if you have ever seen that movie. I am the fat friend that had all pretty, skinny friends. Guys would only talk to me to get close to my friends. Meaning that I was side kick. I was the robin to batman, Stimpy to Ren, the pinky to the brain.
However, the more I looked into this main character fascination everyone was having on TikTok. It made me realize I am the main character, especially in my own life. No one is front and center in my own life except for me. I am the star of this show. Let me share with you how to be the main character of your life. Because we are all our own main characters, we just need to start acting like it.
Pick your Genre
If you life was an actual Hollywood movie what kind of movie would it be? Would it be fast and the furious with your love of cars? Could it be a romantic comedy where you are looking for love? Could others be witnessing your eat, pray, love moment? Where you are already in love, but you need to find yourself. OMG, You just got out of a horrible break up and Stella needs to get her groove back!
Whatever genre you choose start acting as if your life is like that. I walk around singing to myself or Mike so much I might have to say my life would be a musical. I am not mad at that.
Find your passion
In any film that you watch you can see the protagonist or main character is changing or growing over time. They have one goal the entirety of the movie and is driven by that. They either reach their goal or they don’t but they always learn something along the way. The arch of them growing are defined by them pursuing that goal.
Find your passion something you want for yourself so bad that you would do almost anything to have it. They go through these ups and downs trying to reach the goal. That rollercoaster of emotions makes them think their life is over. They are a loser and will never amount to anything. But just in the nick of time they pull out their Mentos and make it work.
Romanticize your life
We talked about this last week on the blog. You can check out that post after you finish reading this one. 🙂 You need to start romanticizing your life. Finding the beauty and wonderment of the world we live in. Take a little extra time to appreciate the smallest things that bring you joy. Look at everything with fresh eyes. Finding the beauty in the world around you and the beauty within yourself.
Again in the movies, you got the Dowey-eyed character that is just so enchanted by life and every person they meet. They swoon over the simplest things and are in complete awe of all the things around them. They do the most romantic things for themselves and others if they can.
Know your worth
This took me a long time to realize and I hope anyone who is younger than me reading this figures this out soon in life rather than later. Even if you are older than me and still don’t know this. You are not defined by your pants size, you are not defined by what is in your pants or on your chest. Your worth is defined by who you are as a person, not your sex, your gender, lack of gender or whatever else.
Who you are as a person and how you treat others and yourself. Don not take anything less from anyone because again what they say or think does not matter. A saying I couldn’t tell you where I heard it from but has always stuck with me is “Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind”. Live by those words. Stand up for yourself and what you deserve as a basic human being. Respect.
Know that people come and go
People come and go from your life. You are meant to learn lessons from them and move on. Those supporting characters should be a regret when you know the lesson they were to teach you. Just as you enter peoples lives to teach them a lesson. You start as a stranger and then end as a stranger. Nothing is wrong with that.
They were people who had cameos and people who had recurring guest roles. Some were there to help you write your story. Others played their part in you becoming who you are meant to be. I can share one story that changed me in a huge way. They changed me more than anyone ever has. It was when I left my abusive relationship.
Be unapologetically you
Live your life as if no one is watching. This has been one that has been really hard for me to let go of. I think people are always watching me secretly judging me. Especially when I was younger. As I get older though I have more moments of living my best life then worrying what others think. I can guarantee you 90% of the time they could not care less what you are doing.
I think the older I get the easier it becomes to just be myself and not give a f*ck what others think. So for those of you in your young teens and twenties. Just know as you get older it becomes a little bit easier to be yourself. Your quirks and all. Because you are not basic. All this worrying about what other people think dulls your sparkle. It dims your light and causes you to become a generic version of yourself. Essentially leaving you to living 2 different lives.
Confucius once said: “We are given two lives and the second begins when we realize we only have one.”
When you get to a certain age and it can be different for everybody. You just don’t give a f*ck anymore. You want to enjoy the things you enjoy when you can because you never know how long you have until your ending credits start to play. Live life to the fullest and don’t worry about everyone else. It doesn’t matter what they think.
Make an adventure out of anything
This is something I say all the time. I will say to Mike you want to go on an adventure and it turns out we are just going to the bedroom to put away laundry. Going to the grocery store. Especially in this polaroid panoramic (pandemic) happening it is a freakin adventure. Will we have toilet paper… Will we have water? Who knows its a guessing game at this point.
Romanticize the mundane and make everything you do an adventure. Go pick up some donuts, your favorite coffee, and go watch the sunrise or sunset if you are into that. Even writing this blog I am looking at it as an adventure. I get to write this blog. How freakin cool is that? It is not something I look at now as I “HAVE” to do it. I “GET” to do it. How cool is my job?
Music Playlist
I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but music plays a big part in my life. Certain songs remind me of certain people or emotions. Hell events that happened in my life. So why not have a music playlist that makes you feel like the main character you are. Make a playlist that defines your life. From your past to the present day and keep adding to it as you get older.
A playlist that just makes you want to seize the day and do all the thing that are done in Hollywood movies. Feel like a bad ass, fall in love, cry at 3am alone in room being all moody, with a pint of moose tracks by your side. Do it all… love your life and all the ups and down. It is a bumpy rollercoaster, but so worth in the end when you look back and see what you did with your life and how truly amazing it was.
Enjoy the moment now, soak up all the goodness so you can relive it, and reminisce when you are older. How awesome would it be to be able to share a playlist and epic stories with your kids and grandkids and so on?
You are the main character
I hope you really think about what I have written here and it has impacted you in some way whenever you are reading this. My goal is for you to see how precious life is and how we need to stop caring what others think. We need to quit being the sidekick and take ownership of our story. I am the main character of my own story, and you are the main character of yours. Isn’t it about time we start acting like it and live like there is no tomorrow?
Until next time, have a great day!
I have started romanticizing my life again and looking for the beauty of the world I live in. Bought 9 acres of land to embrace nature more too
That sounds amazing. I would love to do that one day. That is our dream own some land so we can grow our own veggies.
I love this perspective you have created , I love the point about being unapologetically you. So important!
There has to come a point in your life where you are just you and don’t care what others think. I am at that point.
believe in your self be true to your self,,,if others can do, it is possible that you can do it too .if you really have the passion for it.ever since I was a kid I dreamed on working on a luxurious cruise ship..now I’m doing it for the past 19 yrs
Wow, 19 years that is amazing!
These are all very good points to keep in mind. I learned to love myself more since I started reading posts like yours. Thanks! You’re a great influencer. Keep on inspiring others!
Aww, that is music to my ears. I can tell you are a beautiful soul and deserve all the love in the world.
I am working on myself and this post is useful for me!
Wonderful!
This is a wonderful post – I admire your honesty. You’ve analyzed the situation pretty well and now you’ve got a healthy and empowering view of things – good for you…and for us!
Fantastic post! This was well written, I like the idea of taking charge and being your own main character.
Hahaha thank you.
Music is a very important part of my life and at times I think it is what keeps me going in a difficult situation. This is an amazing article. Thank you for sharing
Me too. I have my happy playlist, my sad playlist, my really sad playlist. I have playlists for every mood I am in. hahahaha
Thanks for this great post. I agree with every point you have explained especially about knowing ones worth.
You need to know your worth. Once you figure that out so much can change for you.
“Take a little extra time to appreciate the smallest things that bring you joy. ” This is so TRUE! This what 2020 taught me, just love every little thing around me!
I like how you identify and gave specific definition on each topic. Social media plays a big role on how we perceive our character, sometimes we all persuade on what we see through online.
I have been down that road. I still find myself being persuaded. Then I have to mentally slap myself out of it.
We have to remember that we are the main character in our own lives. Social media can mess with that. I love the scene from Scandal you included — I take that statement to heart! “You want me, earn me”… we all need to keep that in mind!
I LOOOOOVVVVE Scandal. That scene had me yelling at the TV. YES, GIRL!!! YOU TELL HIM!
Awesome post. It is a lovely way to see how self-worth and just being yourself are so important!
They are so important. We don’t understand that when we are younger, but as we get older we know it. Sometimes it’s just hard not to fall back into that I am not worthy mindset.
This was such a great read and i totally agree with all the points you made. At this point in my life, i want my life to be a romcom and finally fall in-love, but yeah normally the main characters goes after his passion at the same time. So I’ll keep doing that and then attract that energy haha. Hopefully we get a happy ending
Christian, I want my rom-com too. I have the guy, but he could stand to be a little bit more romantic. But I am working on myself and what I want out of this life. You keep being you boo boo and it will FIND you. I am 100% dead serious. That is how I met my fiance. It just happened when I gave up on men. There is no “hopefully” we get a happy ending…. WE WILL HAVE A HAPPY ENDING. In a relationship or not… I will be happy.
I love reading stuff like this, it’s so relatable. I’m smiling while reading this, I was like “Oh okay this is so meee”.
Aww, that is awesome! Your comment made me smile! Smiles all around! You get a smile, You get a smile!!!!
