It’s that exciting time of the year, folks! The season for feasting, sipping, and embracing the spooky vibes! Life is pumpkin-themed! Halloween comes in as my second favorite holiday, right after Christmas. In our family, we adore snuggling up on the couch, watching 31 Not So Scary Movies that won’t give us the creeps, all while immersing ourselves in various Halloween activities. This year, I’m set on making caramel apples and heading to the pumpkin patch to grab some pumpkins for carving.
Important Note: When we say “family-friendly,” we don’t just mean movies suitable for kids. These are simply not super scary films. While many are kid-friendly, some are suitable for teenagers and anyone without kids.
Our mission is to enjoy 31 not-so-scary movies throughout the 31 days of October! If a movie night gets canceled, we’ll have Halloween music to keep the spirit alive. If we can’t watch a movie… Halloween music will be playing. Check out my Ultimate Halloween Music Playlist on YouTube.
Halloween Memories
I remember when Mikayla was 3-years-old, being the Hallow-queen she is! It was our first Halloween together since Mike and I started dating. I quickly learned Mikayla had a potty mouth. I was working with Mike to get her to stop with the curse words. She was so adamant about carving a pumpkin and kept telling us she wanted to carve a girl pumpkin.
As Mike and I sat there cutting the opening for the pumpkin and with my resting witch face I said: “Mikayla if you want to carve a girl pumpkin you need to get in here and help us clean it out”. Mikayla comes over hesitant to put her hand in to pull out the insides. When she finally did… she did she exclaimed “THIS IS SOME NASTY ASS SHIT”
Mike and I looked at her shocked, but couldn’t help but laugh till we were coffin. We couldn’t be mad at her, It was nasty and she used it correctly. From that day forward she never cursed again. She did make her last time memorable though.
Halloween Traditions
Because of that memory, it has now become a Halloween Tradition to carve pumpkins and remind Mikayla of her foul mouth. It is also because of that moment I knew I needed to have a better relationship with Mikayla. She was such a little demon, but you know what they say… Demons are a ghoul’s best friend! In no particular order, these are just the movies we choose to watch when it comes to Halloween time.

This is an awesome list. I never had the chance to watch these movies, except Ghostbusters ( 1 and 2). Well, I might have a scarry Halloween celebration soon.
Ramil, you are missing out! Get on watching those ASAP!
It’s spooky season again and can’t wait to binge watch these movies! I love Casper, The Corpse Bride and Coraline so much. Thank you for creating this list!
Devon Sawa playing Casper was my first crush. After Eric from the Little Mermaid. LOL
I love this time of year and always watch all 4 of the Halloweentown movies with snacks to get me in the mood for autumn!
I can do the first 3. Return to Halloweentown is not the same without Kimberly J. Brown.
This is just a great list. I am going to save this and watch this with my daughter. I think I am going to start with “Ghostbusters”. It’s one of my favorite movies.
I love Ghostbusters. Slimer is my favorite!
Great list of Halloween Movies! I love how you mixed in some great retro movies like Ghostbusters and Little Shop of Horrors with some fun kid movies like Halloweentown and the Olsen Twins type movies. Some of these movies may be a bit scary or weird for younger kids. Not sure how Rocky Horror would work with kids under the age of 12!
I didn’t mean this list is specifically for children. I meant it more along the lines of these movies are not scary.
Oh some of these movies are really good, like Coraline. I really enjoyed that one.
I love Coraline. It is such a good movie.
Some interesting choices of Halloween films. The Witches of Eastwick and the The Rocky Horror Picture Show, I would put a question mark against their supposed suitability for children.
I agree on Casper, Matilda and Hocus Pocus as they really standout!
A family doesn’t have to mean you have kids. It could just be you and your S.O.
I have never been a fan of scary movies, but this looks like a collection that is worth a try. Thanks for the list
Yeah, I like scary movies once in a while. I am more of a family-friendly, light-hearted make you happy movies.
